ESC 2026: oral semaglutide shows lower 3-year CV risk than injectable in T2D
At ESC 2026, findings from a large-scale, propensity-matched real-world study were presented comparing three-year cardiovascular outcomes between oral and injectable semaglutide in adults with T2D. The analysis drew on the Epic Cosmos real-world database, encompassing 1,402,692 adults aged 40–75 years initiating oral or injectable semaglutide between January 2019 and January 2023. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 RA available as a once-weekly subcutaneous injectable (Ozempic/Wegovy) and a once-daily oral tablet (Rybelsus/Wegovy), all marketed by Novo Nordisk.
